Hosted By: U.S. Department of State
The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs or Global Goals) establish an ambitious framework to advance on fundamental social, economic and environmental challenges facing the world over the next 15 years – with the aim of leaving no one on the planet behind. Achieving these goals will require revolutionary change in the way resources are mobilized to address sustainable development challenges. Overseas Development Assistance, while still important, must increasingly leverage other sources of funding and expertise to achieve catalytic results. Domestic resource mobilization, international trade and investment, and remittances are other key funding sources. Also critical is the potential impact of governments, the private sector and civil society joining forces through public-private partnerships, and leveraging each other’s resources and expertise to advance these goals. While there is strong, notable leadership coming from a number of key private sector leaders, more work is needed to truly realize the potential of private sector engagement toward achieving the SDGs.
Participants will include a small group of high-level representatives of companies, business organizations, and senior level State Department officials focused on economic growth, development and partnerships.
- Facilitate dialogue among key actors to discuss best practices, lessons learned and what is needed to ensure the success and scale up the impact of private sector initiatives and public-private partnerships to advance the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Inform participants on efforts and opportunities to partner with the private sector to advance achievement of the SDGs.
